Monday morning Kol Isha: Cheek to Cheek with Eva Cassidy

One of my favorite singers, of blessed memory, singing what I know the be the most beautiful interpretation of Fred Astaire's Cheek to Cheek (OK, I haven't checked all of them out yet.

BTW: Before I knew who Eva Cassidy was, I just assumed she *must* be black :)

  1. What made you think she was black? She sounds pretty "white" to me...Black female vocalists tend to sound more throaty and soulful, though that's more sylistic than genetic.

    She's got a lovely voice! :)

Do you listen to any instrumental swing?

  2. I guess it was my bias that most good female jazz singers were black? :P

I listen to different kinds of jazz, 80's music, crappy Jewish, classical, etc. What music do you like?

  3. Weird. I guess, living near Detroit (which is 85% black), I have an easier time recognizing voices.

I listen primarily to classic rock, blues, classical composers, folk/bluegrass and klezmer
