כי לא מחשבותי מחשבותיכם

כִּי לֹא מַחְשְׁבוֹתַי מַחְשְׁבוֹתֵיכֶם, וְלֹא דַרְכֵיכֶם דְּרָכָי

Motze Shabbos Kol Isha – Maria (Blondie)

(this post was corrected - UK)

When I joined Hillel (Israeli support group for ‘chozrim lisheilah’), one of the things we did was to have a Friday evening disco somewhere in a kibbutz. This was an important song, together with the likes of R.E.M.’s “Losing my religion” and “Hotel California”.

  1. That's a seriously creepy video. It is about a guy stalking a girl and possibly killing her. Um right. The music is good. I'm not sure it makes up for the creepiness.

Also, this brings up something that I've been wondering about for a while: Why do so many music videos have a spy/assassin sort of theme. The only plausible explanation I've heard is that at some level a lot of people have James Bond fantasies and that if you are a prominent musician with a big budget you can incorporate them into your videos, because hey, why not?

  2. Joshua: I don't think it is about stalking and killer fantasies ("Oooh don't you wanna take her home?" is not "don't you want to drag her home in her own blood"). Check out the lyrics: http://www.lyrics007.com/Blondie%20Lyrics/Maria%20Lyrics.html. It's just about a hot girl that guys are on fire for.

About the spy thing: projection perhaps? :P
