From Life in Israel (excellent blog), Quote Of The Day:
Because I have a "chiyuv" to daven for the amud, I found myself yesterday leading the services for mincha when I went to pay a condolences call by the prime minister. To my surprise, the prime minister joined me at the end of the services to say kaddish. The two of us stood there and said "Yisgadal v'yiskadash shmei raba". At that moment I did not think about this, but afterwards I thought to myself that there was something great that had happened - two people who competed for the leadership announced together who is really the leader...-- Moshe Feiglin
Hi, just wanting to clarify what you mean - is it that Israel is in a pickle because Feiglin and Netanyahu acknowledged the "real leader", but that this leader is really just a product of human imagination?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I can think of a positive way to spin this, but I'll wait to hear your answer.
BTW, nice interview on the Coin Laundry blog.

Because the country is in the hand of people that think God is above all, throwing reason and separation of state and church overboard.
ReplyDeleteI share those reservations, but in this case the idea of "announcing who the real leader is" is also an occasion/metaphor for transcending politics and personal power struggles, and acknowledging the need to serve higher principles and morality, to be a worthy leader for the nation and take one's responsibility seriously, and with great humility. To the extent that this sentiment is implied in Feiglin's statement, I see that as a positive thing.
DeleteI tend to agree with your assessment and hope this is just Netanyahu's way of politically appeasing Feiglin...
DeleteNetanyahu was sitting shiva for his father, which is why he was saying kaddish.
DeleteFeiglin came to be menachem avel around Mincha time, and since he's also in aveilut for his father he led the davening and said kaddish as well.

Global Research Editor’s Note
The following document pertaining to the formation of “Greater Israel” constitutes the cornerstone of powerful Zionist factions within the current Netanyahu government, the Likud party, as well as within the Israeli military and intelligence establishment.
According to the founding father of Zionism Theodore Herzl, “the area of the Jewish State stretches: “From the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates.” According to Rabbi Fischmann, “The Promised Land extends from the River of Egypt up to the Euphrates, it includes parts of Syria and Lebanon.”
When viewed in the current context, the war on Iraq, the 2006 war on Lebanon, the 2011 war on Libya, the ongoing war on Syria, not to mention the process of regime change in Egypt, must be understood in relation to the Zionist Plan for the Middle East. The latter consists in weakening and eventually fracturing neighboring Arab states as part of an Israeli expansionist project.
“Greater Israel” consists in an area extending from the Nile Valley to the Euphrates.
The Zionist project supports the Jewish settlement movement. More broadly it involves a policy of excluding Palestinians from Palestine leading to the eventual annexation of both the West Bank and Gaza to the State of Israel.
Greater Israel would create a number of proxy States. It would include parts of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, the Sinai, as well as parts of Iraq and Saudi Arabia. (See map).
